WEST LAKESHORE TRAIL
WEST LAKESHORE TRAIL
This 10-mile trail provides panoramic views of Elephant Butte Lake and surrounding mesas and high desert. 6’ wide and improved with a gravel surface in most areas, the trail is considered easy. The trail can be hiked in shorter sections from the five trailhead parking areas between the City of Elephant Butte and the South Monticello campground.  map>

LUCHINI TRAIL
With access from the Elephant Butte Inn, this 1.5 mile trail winds through the sand dunes between the visitor center and the campgrounds, a fairly easy hike for all ages.
TURTLEBACK MOUNTAIN
TURTLEBACK MOUNTAIN
For the more adventurous spirit, Turtleback Mountain invites hikers to work their way from Elephant Butte Dam to the peak. The views are spectacular and include Elephant Butte Lake, the mountains of the Gila National Forest and Spaceport America. The climb is aggressive and there are no marked trails.
BLACK RANGE CREST TRAIL
BLACK RANGE CREST TRAIL
A relatively short drive from Elephant Butte, the Black Range Trail begins about 18 miles west of Hillsboro at Emery Pass on NM 152. The portion of the trail leading north to Hillsboro Peak is exceptionally rewarding with spectacular views of rugged canyons, the Rio Grande River valley, the Gila Wilderness and Mogollon Mountains.

HEALING WATERS TRAIL
HEALING WATERS TRAIL
An enjoyable walk for all ages, the three-mile Healing Waters Trail loop winds through neighboring Truth or Consequences’ Hot Springs Bathhouse and Commercial Historic District, Rotary Park, the wetlands along the Rio Grande, Carrie Tingley Hill, Veterans Memorial Park and returning downtown to the Geronimo Springs Museum.
