You’ll have a blast with family and friends as you make your way down the Rio Grande River, meandering past mesas, mountains and valleys.  You can even stop at Riverbend Hot Springs along the way for a soak!  Choose large floats or individual tubes and rafts.

Enjoy traditional paddling or paddling with your feet in kayaks built for one or  two as you make your way down river from Elephant Butte Dam, past Truth or Consequences, and, if you like, all the way to Caballo Lake State Park, a 20+ mile trip. Watch for wildlife along the way!

Whether you sit, stand or kneel, paddle boarding is a great way to enjoy your trip down the river.  You’ll enjoy the twists and turns of the Rio Grande as you work your way downstream, with beautiful scenery along the way.  “Get your feet wet” with this popular and rapidly growing sport!

You’ll find the fishing’s great for white bass, largemouth bass, walleye and catfish on the Rio Grande River below Elephant Butte Dam in the spring and early summer.  You can also fish year round for trout and catfish further downstream where the river is dammed at Rotary Park in Truth or Consequences.

Pitch your tent or park your RV next to the Rio Grande River at Paseo del Rio campgrounds just below Elephant Butte Dam.  Reservations are on a first come, first served basis.  The fee is $10 per vehicle, and payment is made via a self-pay station.  From Elephant Butte, take Hwy 179 south to Hwy 51.  Turn left and watch for the Paseo del Rio sign and entrance on your left when the dam comes into view.
RIVERSIDE WALK
RIVERSIDE WALK
Start just below Elephant Butte Dam on a paved path that leads from the campsite area and follows the river south. You’ll find the walk relaxing as you wave at those passing you as they float down the river, or take time to wade in the water. Keep your eyes open for deer and other wildlife along the way. To start your walk, drive south from Elephant Butte on Hwy 195, then turn left on Hwy 51. Pull off into the campsite parking area just below the dam.
